Ki-bon

Intro

Ki-bon is a pattern used by some taekwondo organizations to familiarize beginning students with performing patterns before they begin learning the traditional taekwondo patterns. It sometimes replaces the traditional beginning pattern chon-ji. This is one version of the pattern.

EXPLANATION OF MOVEMENTS

Start: Stand at X facing North.

Attention and bow: As per your school's procedures.

Ready stance: Step left foot toward West into a parallel ready stance with double low fists
  1. Turn 90° left into left front stance, with a left low outer forearm block.
  2. Step forward into right front stance, with right middle fore-fist punch.
  3. Turn 180° right into right front stance, with a right low outer-forearm block.
  4. Step forward into left front stance, with left middle fore-fist punch.
  5. Turn 90° left into left back stance, with left middle inner-forearm block.
  6. Step forward into right front stance, with right middle fore-fist punch.
  7. Step forward into left front stance, with a left high outer-forearm block.
  8. Execute right reverse punch. Kiyup!
  9. Turn 180° right into right back stance, with right middle inner-forearm block.
  10. Step forward into left front stance, with left middle fore-fist punch.
  11. Step forward into right front stance, with a right high outer-forearm block.
  12. Execute left reverse punch. Kiyup!
  13. Turn 270° left into a left sitting stance, with left high outward inverted-knife-hand strike.
  14. Pull left foot back to right foot, step right foot toward right into a right sitting stance, with right high outward inverted-knife-hand strike.
Ready stance: Step left foot toward West into a parallel ready stance with double low fists.
